Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, I spent 30 years in corporate until 2025.
I won a government scholarship to study Mandarin Chinese when I was 18, and spent one year in Beijing, China in 1991. This changed my life. The time there fostered a strong interest in travel as well as a humble curiosity about other cultures, something that has continued to this day. Life is an adventure and I am an optimist at heart. I am open to different environments and points of view. Do you trust in the possibility that magic is ahead? I do. My top five values are Family, Curiosity, Understanding, Intuition and Fun!
After completing a Commerce degree in Finance with disciplinary minors in Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, I embarked on a banking career that took me from Sydney to Bangkok and London. Fate intervened in 1999 with an exciting opportunity to join a growing commodities trading company in Switzerland, and I spent more than 25 years there. At first, I worked in the operations department, rising through the ranks to become a logistics manager of one of the commodities divisions and managing a large global team.
As a senior and experienced manager with a strong understanding of the complete trade life cycle, I was invited to spend a few years working on global I.T. projects that were designed to link together the company’s end-to-end supply channels across all departments. Then, in 2015, I was invited by management and HR to set up a Learning and Development department from scratch – a daunting task. At the same time, I was excited to be given an opportunity to grow, while realizing that the role would introduce me to all global departments and business lines.
At first, I used my time to look at mandatory compliance and I.T. security training as well as induction content. Then I got excited… what else comes under the umbrella of L&D? I became accredited as an individual and team coach, inheriting the delivery of the company’s global leadership development program. Alongside this program, I continued to deliver individual and team coaching sessions to staff globally. Accreditation in the delivery of Insights Discovery and Emotional Intelligence profiles followed.
I was always curious about technology as the corporate environment became more globally oriented via systems and processes. On this note, I developed Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) projects to help explain the company’s trade life cycle and induction process to new starters. How can we make complex things understandable, while carrying the blueprint of a corporate identity with us as we get older? The topic became the key component of my Change Management research for my MBA which I completed while working full time (a huge challenge!)… and for which I was awarded a Distinction.
As the company grew, my goal was to find ways to bring staff together using a variety of touch points and channels. This included, with the assistance of my own growing L&D team, the development of the company’s intranet system, and the creation of exciting training programs that were aligned with company values and leadership skills.
The culmination of skills and experiences that were garnered from the creation of these L&D resources resulted in the delivery of “Learning Weeks” in regional hub offices all over the world. These events explored ways to combine inspirational talks, podcasts, panels, leadership training and workshops for staff to attend. Amazing!
As of February 2025, after more than 30 years in corporate environments, I am now working as a self-employed consultant. I want to share my knowledge and experience. The world can be seen as being complex, polarized and challenging. I am here to share tools and resources that can help you to negotiate your way through this.
